In order to accommodate sit-down dentistry, most equipment in dentistry is on some sort of arm to allow flexible positioning. Delivery systems, operating lights and x-ray generators are all often mounted on flexible arms with vertical travel. A frequently encountered problem with arm-mounted equipment is drift -- the tendency for the arm to move of its own volition.
